Hockey results Wednesday 28 October 2026: AI predictions review
Hockey results Wednesday 28 October 2026: the 10-model AI consensus went 5 of 11 across an 11-game NHL slate, with three unanimous picks among the misses.
Wednesday's 11-game NHL slate was a rough night for the results desk. The 10-model consensus finished 5 of 11, a record that flatters the process in places and undersells how badly it broke in others. Five of the six misses arrived on picks backed by at least 90 per cent of the models, and three of those were unanimous.
The biggest surprise came in Chicago, where all 10 models backed Los Angeles Kings to win — most of them by a 3-4 scoreline — and the Blackhawks won 2-1 instead. That was the day's most confident wrong call at an average confidence of 61 per cent. St. Louis and Utah were the other unanimous misses.

Full-time scenes from an 11-game NHL night that produced five correct consensus calls.
Where the AI got it right
The consensus held firm in Carolina, where Carolina Hurricanes vs Boston Bruins prediction drew 90 per cent support. The models leaned Hurricanes at an average confidence of 57 per cent and the most common score of 4-3 was too generous, but the winner was right: Carolina took it 2-1.
Vancouver was the day's tightest correct call. Only 70 per cent of models backed the Canucks in Anaheim Ducks vs Vancouver Canucks prediction, with an average confidence of 56 per cent and a most common score of 4-5. The game delivered 11 goals and the Canucks edged it 6-5 — the exact scoreline was missed, the result was not.
Vegas was more straightforward. Vegas Golden Knights vs Ottawa Senators prediction carried 80 per cent support at 56 per cent average confidence, and the Golden Knights won 4-1, comfortably clearing a consensus that had expected a 4-3 game.
Buffalo and Washington completed the correct column. San Jose Sharks vs Buffalo Sabres prediction was backed by 90 per cent of models at 59 per cent confidence; the Sabres won 2-0, a shutout against a consensus that had forecast a 4-5 shootout. Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers prediction was the day's most confident correct call: unanimous at 62 per cent average confidence, and the Capitals won 5-2, one goal better than the predicted 4-2.
Where it got it wrong
Chicago was the headline failure. Every model picked Los Angeles in Chicago Blackhawks vs Los Angeles Kings prediction, the most common score was 3-4, and average confidence reached 61 per cent. The Blackhawks won 2-1.
St. Louis and Nashville were also unanimous, and both were wrong. In St. Louis Blues vs Montreal Canadiens prediction, 100 per cent of models backed the Blues at 59 per cent confidence with a 3-2 scoreline; Montreal won 2-0. In Nashville Predators vs New York Islanders prediction, the same unanimity at 57 per cent pointed to a 3-2 Predators win; the Islanders took it 4-3.
Utah made it four unanimous misses. Utah Mammoth vs Minnesota Wild prediction was a 100 per cent pick at 59 per cent confidence with a 4-2 forecast; the Wild won 3-1. The two remaining misses were less emphatic in the vote but no less costly. Winnipeg drew 80 per cent support at 56 per cent confidence in Winnipeg Jets vs Florida Panthers prediction, and Florida won 5-1. Dallas was backed by 90 per cent at 56 per cent in Dallas Stars vs New Jersey Devils prediction; New Jersey won 5-1.
Models of the day
Kimi K3 topped the table with 6 of 11 correct, the only model to beat the consensus figure. Five models landed exactly on the consensus at 5 of 11: GPT-5.6 Luna, Mistral Medium 3.5, DeepSeek V4 Pro, Grok 4.6 and Gemini 3.8 Flash.
Three models finished below the line at 4 of 11: Qwen 3.8 Max, MiMo V2.6 Pro and GLM 5.3. Claude Sonnet 5 was the day's weakest performer at 3 of 11, three short of the consensus and half the tally of the leading model.
