How accurate are AI football predictions?
Updated 16 October 2026
About half the time. Across 1,326 graded football matches, the majority call of 10 AI models picked the right result 49.1% of the time, against 33.3% for a random pick and 45.6% for always backing the home team. When all ten models agreed, they were right 62.4% of the time.
The numbers
| Strategy | Right result |
|---|---|
| Random pick (home, draw or away) | 33.3% |
| Always back the home team | 45.6% |
| Majority of 10 AI models | 49.1% |
| Best single model (Claude Sonnet 5) | 51.6% |
| AI picks made at 70%+ confidence | 76.2% |
| All ten models agree | 62.4% |
Why it is not higher
Football is low-scoring and draws happen in 22.8% of matches, which makes it one of the hardest sports to call. No model, human or bookmaker gets most matches right. What AI does well is ranking matches by how predictable they are: the more models agree and the higher their confidence, the more often they are right.
How we measure it
Every model predicts before kickoff and the pick is locked. After full time it is graded against the official result. Nothing is deleted. Each model's record is on the AI leaderboard, and our accuracy study has the full breakdown.
