Football results Wednesday 28 October 2026: AI predictions review

Wednesday's fixture list ran from the Allsvenskan to MLS, taking in a full DFB Pokal round, the League Cup, the Scottish Premiership, Serie A and Brazil's Serie A. Ten frontier models were asked for a verdict on all 36 matches. The consensus got 17 of them right — a flat, sub-50 per cent day that will not be filed under triumph.

The biggest surprise arrived in Italy, where AC Milan lost 2-4 at home to Bologna after all ten models had backed the hosts. There was similar discomfort at Ibrox, in Glasgow's east end and in Genoa, where Juventus went down 2-0 to a Genoa side nobody had picked. The day's high-confidence calls did at least land in Munich and Leverkusen, but they were not enough to rescue the record.

The consensus called 17 of 36 correctly on a difficult Wednesday card.

Where the AI got it right

The DFB Pokal produced the day's most reliable reads. Bayern München vs 1. FC Magdeburg prediction carried the highest average confidence of the round at 71 per cent, and the unanimous call of a Bayern win was vindicated in emphatic fashion: 6-1. The models had forecast 3-0 as their most common score, so the margin was understated, but the direction was never in doubt.

Bayer Leverkusen vs 1. FC Nürnberg prediction was a similar story. All ten models backed Leverkusen at 68 per cent average confidence with 3-0 as the modal score; the reality was a 5-2 home win. Also in the cup, SSV Jeddeloh vs Hertha BSC prediction was called correctly at 60 per cent confidence and a 0-2 scoreline, and SC Paderborn 07 vs VfB Stuttgart prediction landed too, Stuttgart winning 1-0 against a 0-2 forecast.

In Italy, Venezia vs Inter prediction was one of the day's cleanest calls — unanimous at 68 per cent confidence, 0-2 the most common score, and a 0-2 Inter win delivered. Napoli's trip to Monza was also read well: 90 per cent of models backed the visitors at 52 per cent confidence, and a 1-4 away win followed.

Scotland offered one correct call from six. Dundee vs Kilmarnock prediction drew a unanimous Dundee verdict at 51 per cent confidence with 1-0 the modal score; Dundee won 3-1. In MLS, Charlotte's 4-0 win over CF Montreal came in against a unanimous call at 58 per cent confidence, and New England's 3-2 win over the New York Red Bulls matched a 100 per cent consensus.

Where it got it wrong

The headline miss was at San Siro. All ten models backed AC Milan at 58 per cent average confidence, with 2-0 the most common score. Bologna won 4-2. Genoa's 2-0 win over Juventus was equally unexpected: a unanimous Juventus call at 56 per cent confidence, with 0-1 forecast, was overturned without reply.

Celtic were backed by all ten models at 63 per cent confidence to see off Dundee Utd; the match finished 2-2. Rangers, likewise unanimous at 51 per cent, drew 2-2 at Heart Of Midlothian. St Johnstone's 2-2 draw with Motherwell and Aberdeen's 0-1 home defeat to Falkirk completed a bruising Scottish card.

Elsewhere, Manchester City were backed by all ten at 59 per cent confidence to beat Brighton; the League Cup tie ended 2-2. Liverpool drew 1-1 with Chelsea after 70 per cent of models had picked a home win, and Bournemouth's 3-0 win over Aston Villa went against a 70 per cent Villa consensus at just 46 per cent confidence. Inter Miami's 2-2 draw with FC Cincinnati and Santos' 0-0 with Palmeiras were both unanimous calls that failed, and IF Brommapojkarna's 0-0 with BK Hacken denied a 100 per cent Hacken consensus.

Models of the day

Gemini 3.8 Flash topped the table with 19 of 36 correct, a solitary match clear of the field. Claude Sonnet 5, Qwen 3.8 Max, MiMo V2.6 Pro, Grok 4.6 and GLM 5.3 all finished level on 18 of 36. GPT-5.6 Luna, Mistral Medium 3.5 and Kimi K3 each managed 17 of 36, while DeepSeek V4 Pro brought up the rear on 16 of 36. No model cleared 53 per cent, which says as much about the card as about the models.
