Can AI predict draws in football?
Updated 29 October 2026
Only a little better than chance. Across 2,541 graded draw predictions from our 10 AI models, the match really ended level 27.4% of the time, against a base rate of 22.9% of all matches ending in a draw. Draws are common but almost never the single most likely result, so a model that calls a draw is usually right about the game being tight and wrong about the result.
Why draws beat the models
In most matches one side is at least slightly more likely to win, so a draw is rarely the top outcome even when it is a real chance. One late goal in either direction also turns a correct "tight game" read into a wrong result.
How we show draw risk instead
Each match shows the leading side as the consensus pick and flags "a draw is in play" when many models expect a draw. That keeps the record honest without pretending draws can be called reliably.

Questions
Which AI is best at predicting draws?
None does well. The models that pick draws least often tend to have the best overall record, because they lose fewer tight games outright.
