The consensus correctly predicted 12 of 24 outcomes, a 50 per cent hit rate that exposes the difficulty of calling a sport where a hot goaltender or an early goal can flip a script.

The biggest surprise came in the NHL, where Utah Mammoth thrashed Chicago Blackhawks 6–0. Eight of 10 models had backed the Blackhawks, with an average confidence of 60 per cent, making it the most unexpected result of the night. Elsewhere, Krefeld Pinguine's 3–1 win over ERC Ingolstadt and Augsburger Panther's 5–2 defeat of Grizzly Wolfsburg also flew in the face of strong consensus.

Where the AI got it right

In the DEL, Kolner vs Munchen prediction was a comfortable call: all 10 models backed Munchen and the visitors delivered a 4–2 win, with the most common score prediction of 2–3 close to the mark. Straubing Tigers vs Bremerhaven prediction also went to script, Straubing's 4–3 victory matching the unanimous pick and nearly matching the 3–2 scoreline most models expected.

The KHL provided two clear hits. Avangard Omsk vs Lada prediction saw 100 per cent of models back Omsk, and they were rewarded with a 4–1 win. Yekaterinburg vs Khabarovsk prediction was a 90 per cent call, and Yekaterinburg's 3–0 shutout justified the confidence.

In Liiga, KalPa vs SaiPa prediction was unanimous and correct: KalPa edged it 4–3, exactly the most common score. Tappara vs Jokerit prediction also went to the consensus, Tappara winning 3–2, while Kiekko-Espoo vs Karpat prediction saw Karpat triumph 3–1 as all 10 models expected.

The NHL produced two correct calls. Calgary Flames vs Seattle Kraken prediction was a 60 per cent pick for Seattle, who romped to a 6–1 win. And Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers prediction was a unanimous Edmonton call; the Oilers won a wild 9–7 affair.

The misses were costly. In the DEL, Krefeld Pinguine vs ERC Ingolstadt prediction saw 90 per cent of models back Ingolstadt, but Krefeld won 3–1. Frankfurt Lowen vs Eisbaren Berlin prediction was another 90 per cent call for Frankfurt, yet Eisbaren Berlin took it 2–0. Augsburger Panther vs Grizzly Wolfsburg prediction had 80 per cent on Wolfsburg, but Augsburger won 5–2.

The KHL was equally unkind. Salavat Ufa vs Novosibirsk prediction was unanimous for Salavat, but Novosibirsk won 4–2. Niznekamsk vs Barys Astana prediction saw all 10 models pick Niznekamsk, only for Barys to edge a 5–4 thriller. Bars Kazan vs Tractor Chelyabinsk prediction was another unanimous miss: Tractor won 3–2. Spartak Moscow vs Magnitogorsk prediction had 60 per cent on Spartak, but Magnitogorsk won 2–0.

Liiga's Assat vs Lukko prediction was a perfect example of overconfidence: 100 per cent of models backed Assat, yet Lukko won 3–0. In the NHL, Nashville Predators vs Minnesota Wild prediction saw all 10 models pick Nashville, but Minnesota won 3–1. Utah Mammoth vs Chicago Blackhawks prediction was an 80 per cent call for Chicago, but Utah demolished them 6–0. San Jose Sharks vs Florida Panthers prediction had 70 per cent on Florida, yet San Jose won 4–3. And Carolina Hurricanes vs Washington Capitals prediction was unanimous for Carolina, but Washington won 5–2.

Models of the day

Kimi K3 was the standout performer, topping the table with 15 of 24 correct. Claude Sonnet 5, DeepSeek V4 Pro, MiMo V2.5 Pro and Grok 4.6 all followed with 13 of 24. At the other end, Mistral Medium 3.5 and GLM 5.3 shared the wooden spoon with 11 of 24 correct each, two behind the consensus average of 12.
