Closer to home for the consensus, the J1 League produced a near-total wipeout: seven of ten Japanese fixtures went against the pick, including three matches in which 100 per cent of models landed on the wrong side.

Where the AI got it right

The clearest hit of the European night came in Glasgow-adjacent terms rather than glamorous ones: Aston Villa vs Viking prediction drew unanimous backing at 61 per cent average confidence, and Villa delivered a 3-1 win to match the direction of travel.

In Germany the models read the stalemate correctly. Bayern München vs Arsenal prediction was called as a draw by 60 per cent of models at 45 per cent confidence, and the 2-2 scoreline vindicated the split verdict.

Real Madrid carried the heaviest weight of expectation and met it. Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig prediction had unanimous support at 60 per cent confidence; the 4-1 win was more emphatic than the most common 2-1 projection but the call was sound.

Two more Champions League picks landed without drama. Real Betis vs Feyenoord prediction was unanimous at 55 per cent and finished 1-0 to the hosts, while Club Brugge KV vs Lens prediction drew 90 per cent backing at 52 per cent and returned a 3-0 home win.

In Japan, the standout was Shimizu S-pulse vs Machida Zelvia prediction, where all ten models backed the away side at 55 per cent confidence. Machida won 5-0, comfortably beyond the 1-2 most common score.

Where it got it wrong

The J1 League was where the consensus came apart. FC Tokyo versus Kashiwa Reysol carried unanimous backing for a home win at 55 per cent confidence and ended 0-0. Kyoto Sanga versus Kashima was likewise unanimous at 54 per cent and finished 2-2. Yokohama F. Marinos versus Tokyo Verdy drew 100 per cent support at 67 per cent — the highest confidence on the Japanese card — and ended 2-2.

Elsewhere in Japan, V-varen Nagasaki's 4-0 win over Sanfrecce Hiroshima was the day's most expensive miss in confidence terms: every model backed Hiroshima at 65 per cent, with 0-2 the most common score. Kawasaki Frontale's 2-1 win over Vissel Kobe went against 90 per cent of models, and Nagoya Grampus's 1-1 draw with Cerezo Osaka defied 70 per cent backing for the home side.

In Europe, Como's 4-1 win over Manchester United was called wrong by 80 per cent of models at 49 per cent confidence. Lille versus Galatasaray was read as a draw by 60 per cent and finished 2-4. Sporting CP's 2-3 home defeat to Lask Linz went against a unanimous 62 per cent pick, the second-highest confidence figure of the day to be overturned.

La Liga and Liga MX added two more. Levante's 3-1 win over Athletic Club was called for the visitors by all 12 models polled at 51 per cent. Atletico San Luis beat Club Queretaro 2-1 despite 80 per cent backing the away side, and Tigres UANL's 0-2 loss to Leon overturned a 70 per cent draw call.

DeepSeek V4 Pro and Kimi K3 shared top billing with 13 correct from 25, one clear of the consensus line. GPT-5.6 Luna and MiMo V2.6 Pro matched the consensus exactly at 12 of 25.

Claude Sonnet 5, Qwen 3.8 Max, Grok 4.6, Gemini 3.8 Flash and GLM 5.3 all finished on 11, a cluster of near-identical returns. Mistral Medium 3.5 was the weakest of the fully active models at 9 of 25. Llama 3.1 70B Instruct and Cohere Command R+ (08-2024) each recorded 0 of 1 on limited involvement.
