Thursday 5 November 2026 produced a congested European night and a difficult one for the models. Across 41 matches run through ten frontier AI systems before kickoff, the consensus verdict landed on 19 winners. That is a sub-50 per cent hit rate on a card dominated by Europa League and Europa Conference League fixtures, where home advantage and squad rotation proved harder to read than the pre-match numbers suggested.

The headline miss was not a narrow one. A full 100 per cent of models backed Bayer Leverkusen to beat Marseille; Leverkusen lost 0-1. Ajax's 6-1 demolition of Midtjylland, by contrast, was called correctly by 90 per cent of the panel — though almost none of them saw that scoreline coming. The day's biggest surprise was arguably Atalanta's 1-1 home draw with Kairat Almaty, a result every one of the ten models had written off as an Atalanta win.

Where the AI got it right

Palmeiras delivered the most emphatic correct call of the day, routing Remo 6-1. All ten models backed a Palmeiras win at 67 per cent average confidence, with 2-0 the most common scoreline — the direction was emphatic even if the margin was not forecast.

Aldosivi vs River Plate prediction was a clean sweep: 100 per cent of models went for River Plate, the most common score 0-2, and the match finished 0-2. Average confidence was a measured 57 per cent.

In the Europa League, Sparta Praha vs Bournemouth prediction held up as Bournemouth won 3-1 away, matching a unanimous consensus at 54 per cent average confidence. Benfica's 3-1 win over Lech Poznan was likewise unanimous at 64 per cent, and AZ Alkmaar vs Juventus prediction landed as Juventus won 2-1, the exact most common score, at 50 per cent.

The Conference League supplied steady returns: Monaco's 2-0 win over Nordsjaelland, Lugano's 3-0 defeat of Kauno Žalgiris and Copenhagen's 2-1 win over Iberia 1999 were all unanimous calls at 55, 66 and 68 per cent confidence respectively. Getafe vs Brighton prediction also came in, Brighton winning 0-1 exactly as the 90 per cent majority and the most common score suggested.

Where it got it wrong

The heaviest blow was Leverkusen. All ten models picked a home win, the most common score was 2-0, and average confidence sat at 69 per cent — the highest of any wrong call on the card. Marseille won 0-1.

Several other unanimous or near-unanimous picks fell. Lincoln Red Imps beat Hajduk Split 1-0 despite 100 per cent backing for the visitors at 63 per cent confidence. Aarhus held Braga 0-0 against a unanimous Braga call at 57 per cent. Sturm Graz lost 2-3 at home to Celje, again with every model on the home side. Sunderland went down 0-2 to Dinamo Zagreb, another 100 per cent miss. Real Sociedad drew 1-1 with Lyon, Crystal Palace drew 1-1 with Hoffenheim and Atalanta drew 1-1 with Kairat — three more unanimous home-win calls that did not hold.

Elsewhere the panel was split and still wrong. Trabzonspor lost 0-1 to Freiburg with 80 per cent backing the hosts. Thun beat Hearts 3-1 against an 80 per cent away consensus. Celtic beat Beşiktaş 3-2 despite 90 per cent favouring the Turkish side. Sao Paulo and Corinthians played out a 0-0 that defied a unanimous Sao Paulo call, and AC Milan lost 0-2 at home to Ferencvaros with 60 per cent on the Italian side.

Models of the day

Three systems shared top spot. Qwen 3.8 Max, Kimi K3 and Meta Muse Spark 1.3 each finished 21 of 41, two clear of the consensus line. Claude Sonnet 5.5, MiMo V2.6 Pro and Gemini 3.8 Flash followed on 20 of 41, with GPT-6 Luna, DeepSeek V4 Pro and Grok 4.7 on 19.

The bottom of the table belonged to GLM 5.3, which managed 17 of 41, one behind Mistral Medium 3.5 on 18 of 40. No model cleared 52 per cent on a night when the panel's collective judgement was tested repeatedly by away wins and stalemates.
