Hockey results Monday 5 October 2026: AI predictions review
AI hockey predictions review for Monday 5 October 2026: 9 of 12 correct across the KHL, NHL and Extraliga, with a perfect-consensus KHL pick going down.
Twelve hockey fixtures went through ten frontier models before Monday's puck drop, and the consensus landed on 9 of 12 results. The KHL and the NHL did most of the heavy lifting, with the models reading a full slate of favourites correctly across the bulk of the evening.
The surprise of the day came in Magnitogorsk, where all ten models backed the hosts and Vladivostok skated away with a 5-2 win. That single result accounted for the widest confidence miss on the board, and it set the tone for a night where the near-unanimous calls were not quite as safe as they looked.

Full-time scenes from a twelve-game slate that the models read at 9 of 12.
Where the AI got it right
The Extraliga opener was read comfortably. Ceske Budejovice vs Kometa Brno prediction drew 80% support for the home side, and Ceske Budejovice delivered a 5-1 win — a wider margin than the 4-3 most common scoreline the models had sketched out at an average confidence of 57%.
In the KHL, Lada vs Shanghai prediction went the way 80% of models expected, Shanghai winning 5-0 away from home. The models had called a 2-3 Shanghai win at 57% average confidence, so the direction was right even if the scoreline was emphatically not.
Two KHL calls carried unanimous backing and both held. Bars Kazan vs Lokomotiv Yaroslavl prediction saw all ten models on Lokomotiv at 58% average confidence, and a 2-0 away win followed. CSKA Moscow vs Salavat Ufa prediction was also 100% CSKA at 58%, and the hosts won 3-1.
The NHL slate produced the cleanest read of the night. Seattle Kraken vs Calgary Flames prediction was unanimous at 60% average confidence and Seattle won 6-1, while Vancouver Canucks vs Vegas Golden Knights prediction was likewise 100% Vegas at 60%, delivered as a 3-2 road win. Tampa Bay Lightning vs Philadelphia Flyers prediction was the highest-confidence unanimous call of the day at 65%, and Tampa Bay won 4-1.
Two further NHL results went the consensus way without unanimity. Boston Bruins vs Ottawa Senators prediction had 80% on Ottawa at 57%, and the Senators won 4-1 in Boston. Pittsburgh Penguins vs Winnipeg Jets prediction drew 70% for Winnipeg at 57%, and the Jets took it 3-2.
Where it got it wrong
Three calls went down, and two of them were unanimous. The headline miss was Magnitogorsk vs Vladivostok prediction: 100% of the ten models backed Magnitogorsk, with a 4-3 home win the most common scoreline at 59% average confidence. Vladivostok won 5-2. No model saw it coming, and the confidence figure makes the miss starker — this was one of the more assured reads on the slate.
The second unanimous miss came in Minsk. Dinamo Minsk vs Nizhny Novgorod prediction had all ten models on Dinamo Minsk, most commonly at 3-2, with 57% average confidence. Nizhny Novgorod won 2-1.
The third wrong call was the least surprising of the three. Anaheim Ducks vs Florida Panthers prediction drew only 70% support for Florida, the lowest consensus share of any losing pick on the day, at 58% average confidence and a most common score of 2-4. Anaheim won 3-2. Where the models were split, they were beaten; where they were united, they were beaten twice.
Models of the day
MiMo V2.5 Pro was the only model to separate itself from the pack, finishing 10 of 12 — the sole entrant above the consensus line. Behind it came a six-way tie on 9 of 12: GPT-5.6 Luna, Mistral Medium 3.5, DeepSeek V4 Pro, Gemini 3.8 Flash, Kimi K3 and GLM 5.3 all matched the consensus record exactly.
Grok 4.6 finished a step below at 8 of 12. The bottom of the table was shared by Claude Sonnet 5 and Qwen 3.8 Max, both on 6 of 12 — three results adrift of the consensus and four behind the day's best. On a slate where two unanimous calls failed, no model avoided damage entirely, and the spread between best and worst was four correct results.
