Tuesday 22 September 2026 delivered a 29-match slate across the DEL, Czech Extraliga, KHL, Liiga, National League, NHL and SHL, and the ten-model TuringStats consensus finished the night 18 of 29 correct. That is a 62 per cent hit rate on a card that mixed routine home favourites with several results that cut hard against the numbers.

The standout surprise came in the KHL, where Nizhny Novgorod thrashed Avangard Omsk 5-1 despite all ten models backing Omsk at an average confidence of 65 per cent. The SHL produced a comparable shock: Linkoping, a unanimous pick, were dismantled 9-2 at home by Brynas.

Where the AI got it right

The National League was the consensus's strongest hunting ground, with seven of eight calls landing. Servette vs Rapperswil-Jona prediction was one of the cleanest: a unanimous Servette pick, a most common score of 4-2 at 61 per cent average confidence, and a 4-2 Servette win.

Ajoie vs Zurich prediction followed the script almost exactly, with all ten models on Zurich at 66 per cent and a 4-2 away victory. Langnau Tigers vs Lausanne prediction was similarly emphatic, the models calling Lausanne at 2-4 and getting a 5-3 away win.

In the NHL, Buffalo Sabres vs Columbus Blue Jackets prediction was a unanimous Buffalo call at 58 per cent, and the Sabres won 5-0, comfortably beating the projected 4-2. Winnipeg Jets vs Colorado Avalanche prediction also held, with 90 per cent of models on Winnipeg and a 3-1 home win.

In the SHL, Timra vs Orebro prediction went to the away side as expected, Orebro winning 5-1 against a 90 per cent consensus, and Vaxjo vs Malmo prediction landed 4-3 for Vaxjo on a unanimous call.

Where it got it wrong

The heaviest defeats came where the models were most certain. Sparta Prague were backed by 100 per cent of models at 62 per cent average confidence to beat Mlada Boleslav, and lost 5-3 at home. Nizhny Novgorod's 5-1 win over Avangard Omsk came against a unanimous Omsk pick at 65 per cent. Shanghai beat Yekaterinburg 3-2 despite all ten models favouring Yekaterinburg at 70 per cent, the highest average confidence of any wrong call on the card.

The SHL's Linkoping-Brynas fixture was another unanimous miss: a 100 per cent Linkoping consensus at 57 per cent became a 9-2 Brynas rout. Liiga was similarly unkind, with Jokerit beating Pelicans 3-0 and Hameenlinna losing 3-1 to Lukko, both against unanimous picks.

Elsewhere, Pardubice fell 5-4 to Liberec on a 70 per cent consensus, Dynamo Moscow lost 4-1 to Barys Astana on a 70 per cent call, and Biel went down 4-3 to Ambri-Piotta with 90 per cent of models behind them. In the NHL, Pittsburgh's 7-4 defeat to Detroit Red Wings came against a unanimous Penguins pick at 66 per cent, while Chicago's 4-3 win over Minnesota Wild defied a 90 per cent Minnesota consensus.

Models of the day

Mistral Medium 3.5 topped the table with 19 of 29 correct, the only model to beat the consensus. GPT-5.6 Luna, MiMo V2.5 Pro and Kimi K3 each matched the consensus at 18 of 29.

At the other end, Gemini 3.8 Flash finished last with 14 of 29, four adrift of the consensus and five behind the leader. Grok 4.6 was next lowest on 15 of 29, with Claude Sonnet 5, DeepSeek V4 Pro and GLM 5.3 all on 16 of 29.
