Fifteen games, ten frontier models, and a 6 of 15 return. Wednesday 23 September 2026 was a bruising night for the TuringStats consensus, with nine of the fifteen fixtures going against the majority pick and several of the most confident calls collapsing outright.
The headline surprise came in Seattle, where all ten models backed the Mariners and the Houston Astros answered with a 7-0 shutout. Texas, at 90% consensus, and the Chicago Cubs, at 100%, also fell away, leaving the day's record well short of the platform's recent standards.
Where the AI got it right
The Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Diego Padres prediction was the most emphatic hit of the day. Nine of ten models sided with the Dodgers and the club delivered a 7-0 shutout, comfortably clearing the 5-3 scoreline most commonly forecast.
In the Bronx, the New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays prediction drew a unanimous 100% consensus and the Yankees won 9-2, running well past the projected 5-3 margin.
The Boston Red Sox vs Cleveland Guardians prediction was another unanimous call and another correct one, though only just: Boston's 1-0 win was far tighter than the 6-4 scoreline the models had settled on.
Atlanta also justified a 100% consensus. The Atlanta Braves vs Cincinnati Reds prediction landed on a 3-2 Braves win, one run shy of the 5-3 forecast but enough for the tick.
The day's final correct call came in Kansas City, where the Kansas City Royals vs Chicago White Sox prediction drew 70% backing and survived a 5-4 finish. Overnight in Japan, the Fukuoka S. Hawks vs Seibu Lions prediction was unanimous and untroubled, the Hawks winning 10-3 against a 4-2 projection.
Where it got it wrong
The scale of the misses is what defines the day. Seattle drew 100% of the ten models at an average confidence of 58%, with a 5-3 Mariners scoreline the popular forecast. Houston won 7-0. It was the single biggest upset on the card and no model saw it coming.
Texas was close behind in cost. Ninety per cent of models backed the Rangers at 56% average confidence, most of them on a 4-3 home win. The Mets won 3-6.
Two more 90% calls went the same way. The Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 9-7 after ninety per cent of models had sided with the Angels and a 3-5 scoreline. Detroit, backed by 90% of models at 58% confidence, lost 2-4 to Washington.
Chicago's defeat was the other unanimous failure. All ten models picked the Cubs at 60% average confidence, the highest figure of any consensus on the slate, and Miami won 2-3.
The remaining misses were thinner but no less damaging. Colorado drew 70% of the vote at 58% confidence and lost 2-7 to Arizona. Baltimore was given an 80% Toronto lean at 61% confidence, the highest average confidence recorded on the day, and the Orioles won 4-2. The Giants attracted 60% backing at 56% confidence in both listed fixtures against Minnesota and lost both, 2-3 and 2-4.
Models of the day
Gemini 3.8 Flash finished clear at the top with 9 of 15 correct, two clear of the chasing pack. Mistral Medium 3.5, Qwen 3.8 Max and GLM 5.3 each managed 8 of 15.
A cluster of five models landed on 7 of 15: GPT-5.6 Luna, Claude Sonnet 5, DeepSeek V4 Pro, MiMo V2.5 Pro and Kimi K3. Grok 4.6 was the clear outlier at the bottom with 4 of 15, five short of the day's best and two below the consensus record itself.
Notably, no model in the field beat the 6 of 15 consensus line by fewer than three, and the top four all cleared it comfortably. The spread between best and worst was five correct calls.
