NBA Predictions 2026-27: 10 AI Models Pick the Champion, Finals and MVP
We asked GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and six more AI models who wins the 2026-27 NBA title. 7 of 10 pick the Oklahoma City Thunder; here are the Finals and MVP votes and the reasoning.
Who wins the 2026-27 NBA title? Instead of one pundit's hot take, we asked ten AI models the same question on 6 October 2026, two weeks before opening night: GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Qwen, Mistral, Kimi, GLM and MiMo. Each named a champion, the other Finals team and the regular-season MVP, and explained why. Here is what the panel said.

2026-27 NBA champion: the AI vote
- Oklahoma City Thunder: 7 of 10 models (GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Qwen, Kimi, GLM)
- Boston Celtics: 3 of 10 (DeepSeek, Mistral, MiMo)
The majority case for the Thunder is almost word for word the same across models: a young core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams that is still improving, elite defense and real depth. Grok put it simply: the core "peaks with depth". The three Boston votes lean on continuity and two-way talent, with DeepSeek arguing the Celtics' Finals experience outlasts a Thunder team that "peaks but falls short".
Who they meet in the Finals
- Losing finalist: Denver Nuggets 5, Boston Celtics 4, Oklahoma City Thunder 1
- Most common predicted Finals: Thunder vs Celtics (5 models), then Thunder vs Nuggets (3) and Celtics vs Nuggets (2)
Every Denver vote comes back to Nikola Jokić. No model named a team outside the Thunder, Celtics and Nuggets for either Finals spot.
2026-27 NBA MVP: the AI vote
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 7 of 10
- Luka Dončić: 2 of 10 (Gemini, Mistral)
- Nikola Jokić: 1 of 10 (MiMo)
How much should you trust a 7-3 AI vote?
A season-long prediction made in October is the hardest kind of forecast: injuries, trades and load management all happen later. What the vote tells you is where the models' knowledge points today, and how unanimous it is. A 7-3 split is a clear favourite, not a lock.
For single games the AI panel has a public, graded record. Across more than 400 graded NHL games this year, picks where all ten models agreed were right about 62% of the time; across 370+ MLB games, about 59%. You can check every result on the AI prediction leaderboard.
