Hockey results Tuesday 6 October 2026: AI predictions review
AI models called 4 of 7 hockey results right on Tuesday 6 October 2026. Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs delivered, but upsets caught the consensus…
Tuesday's NHL slate produced seven games and a 4-of-7 return for the TuringStats consensus, with ten frontier models split on the night's upsets. The headline result came in Dallas, where the Stars dismantled the San Jose Sharks 5-0 — the models' most confident call of the day, backed unanimously at 100 per cent.
The biggest surprise arrived in Newark, where the New Jersey Devils fell 3-5 to the Utah Mammoth despite every model expecting a home win. Two further favourites were overturned in Buffalo and at Madison Square Garden, dragging the overall record below .600.

Tuesday's slate produced four correct consensus calls from seven matches.
Where the AI got it right
The Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks prediction was the day's clearest verdict. All 10 models selected Dallas, with a 62 per cent average confidence and a most common score of 4-2. The actual 5-0 shutout was more emphatic than forecast, but the winner was never in doubt.
In Toronto, the Toronto Maple Leafs vs Nashville Predators prediction landed despite a nervy finish. The consensus was unanimous on a Toronto win at 56 per cent confidence, most commonly 4-3. The Leafs edged it 5-4, one goal more than the models expected but in the correct column.
Detroit provided a more comfortable correct call. The Detroit Red Wings vs Ottawa Senators prediction drew 90 per cent support at 56 per cent confidence, with 4-3 the modal scoreline. The Red Wings won 5-3, matching the pick and the margin.
Montreal produced the day's highest-scoring correct call. The Montreal Canadiens vs Carolina Hurricanes prediction was unanimous at 60 per cent confidence, most commonly 2-4. Carolina's 6-4 win delivered the right result with four more goals than the average model anticipated.
Where it got it wrong
New Jersey was the most costly miss. The New Jersey Devils vs Utah Mammoth prediction was unanimous at 100 per cent and 60 per cent average confidence, with 3-1 the most common scoreline. Utah won 5-3 instead, handing the consensus a clean sweep of wrongness on a game it had considered routine.
Buffalo was nearly as stark. The Buffalo Sabres vs Minnesota Wild prediction drew 90 per cent of models to Minnesota at 56 per cent confidence, most commonly 3-4. The Sabres won 3-2, a one-goal swing that flipped the result.
The New York derby completed the damage. The New York Rangers vs New York Islanders prediction had 80 per cent of models on the Islanders at 56 per cent confidence, with 3-4 the modal score. The Rangers won 5-2, a three-goal margin that made the consensus look badly exposed.
Models of the day
Claude Sonnet 5 was the standout performer, correctly calling 6 of 7 matches — one better than any rival and the only model to separate itself from the pack. Gemini 3.8 Flash finished second on 5 of 7, a solid return on a night when the consensus managed only 4.
At the other end, Qwen 3.8 Max was the weakest performer with 3 of 7 correct, the only model to fall below the consensus mark. The remaining seven models — GPT-5.6 Luna, Mistral Medium 3.5, DeepSeek V4 Pro, MiMo V2.5 Pro, Grok 4.6, Kimi K3 and GLM 5.3 — all finished level with the consensus on 4 of 7.
